How to make a QR code for WiFi
- Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your phone.
- Choose the security type and enter the password.
- Download it, test it with your phone, then print it where guests can see it.
Tips for a code that scans every time
- Most iPhones and Android phones can join a network straight from the camera app.
- Choose “WPA / WPA2 / WPA3” for almost every modern router.
- Network names and passwords are case-sensitive – copy them exactly.
- Anyone who can see the code can join. For visitors, consider a separate guest network.
- If you change your WiFi password, make a new code – the old one still contains the old password.
Questions and answers
Is a WiFi QR code safe?
The code contains your network name and password, just like a note on the wall. Only show it where you would be happy to share the password, and use a guest network for visitors where you can.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Recent iPhones and Android phones recognise WiFi codes in the built-in camera app. On some older Android phones you may need Google Lens or a QR scanner app.
What if my network is hidden?
Tick “This is a hidden network” so phones know to look for it.
Does it work with company networks that ask for a username?
No. WiFi QR codes work with networks that use one shared password (WPA, WPA2 or WPA3 Personal). Enterprise networks that ask each person to sign in can’t be shared this way.
Does the code expire?
No. It works until you change the network name or password.
